I have incorporated complex experimental music into my work for many years, particularly through guitar improvisations and, earlier, breakcore and IDM productions from the late 2000s to early 2010s. However, chronic health issues required an extended break for most of 2025.
I live with chronic arthritis affecting the joints in my fingers and wrists, characterised by severe, unpredictable flare-ups. A significant flare-up in late 2024 halted my ability to play guitar for months and resulted in permanent deformity in one wrist. Given these limitations, and the likelihood of further progression, I have accepted that complex guitar performance may no longer be sustainable.
Shifting to fully electronic production is pragmatic under my current circumstances: I lack access to a band, recording studio, or remaining industry contacts, and apartment living prevents loud recording sessions involving screaming or high-volume black metal production.
I recognise that many followers anticipated a return to Richard Moult-style guitar improvisations or Black Metal. While I intend to revisit guitar when feasible, electronic music currently allows me to remain creative and produce intense work despite physical and environmental constraints.
Medically, I present with symptoms consistent with rheumatoid arthritis — joint inflammation, deformities, fevers, and severe immune dysfunction — yet Australian diagnostic guidelines prevent formal diagnosis because blood tests show elevated Rheumatoid Factor without consistent inflammation markers. Treatment is therefore limited to non-steroidal anti-inflammatories. In late January 2026, I will seek a second opinion from a rheumatologist specialising in complex cases.
